Tri-Colored Pembroke Welsh Corgi

guardian home program

In order to give our breeding dogs the very best life possible, it is important to limit how many dogs we personally keep at our home. But in order to breed the highest quality dogs, we need to continuously evaluate and add quality blood-lines to our breeding program. This allows us to expand our breeding program the right way.... by keeping our breeding dogs out of a kennel environment and in a loving Guardian Home.

as a Guardian Home, you get a high quality pick of the litter pup free of charge and you become that puppy's forever home. Wilson Ranch Corgis retains breeding rights and is registered under my name. For females, this starts at sexual maturity and ends once female has whelped to 4 litters. Males are a little different. They will be used to breed more often and longer due to the fact that they don't have to take care of litters. They get their job done and then gets to go home. For males, this starts at sexual maturity and ends up to 7 years of age. While the dog is in our breeding program, Wilson Ranch Corgis pays for all breeding related expenses. Guardian Homes are responsible for all typical "pet" expenses and maintenance.

Once a dog passes its health testing, Wilson Ranch Corgis will decide when each dog will be bred and to whom. Females will stay with their Guardian Home during pregnancy and then she is returned to us about 2 weeks before her due date to deliver and raise her puppies. Once the puppies are weaned, the female can be picked up by her Guardian Family. Once the dog has completed his/her breeding obligations, we pay for him/her to be spayed/neutered.

Corgi's love going with us

To qualify for our guardian home program, you must:

  • Live within 4 hours of Walsh, CO and be flexible for dropping off and picking up the dog for vet visits, breeding, and whelping.
  • Keep the dog safe and contained from any outside males or females (all other dogs in your house must be spayed/neutered if they are the opposite sex)
  • Be able to notice when she is in heat (I can help you with this)
  • Keep the dog up to date on vaccinations/wormers. The guardian is in charge of all routine, pet-related vet expenses, just like you would with any typical pet dog.
  • Provide basic training that is standard for dog ownership (house trained, crate training, and basic obedience)
  • Feed our recommended diet
  • No plans of relocating within the next 5 years
  • understand that we are waiving the purchase price of the dog in exchange for a service - you must be willing to communicate, cooperate and coordinate with us during their time in our program, and be dedicated to providing a safe, loving home for the lifetime of the dog.
